Portogruaro – the queen of Lemene

A medieval city reminiscent of a clearly Venetian ambience. According to legend, this city was built on the remains of Concordia Sagittaria, which had been razed to the ground by Attila and the Huns around the 5th century; later, around the year 1100, the port on river Lemene was realized – the main means of communication between the inland area and the sea.

There are many attractions, starting from the central Piazza della Repubblica, near Piazza Duomo, where you can admire the bell tower and its surprising slant.

There is also the Pozzetto delle Gru, a symbol of the city, the picturesque mills, churches including the Duomo and the palaces of the Venetian period.
